New Zealand counted 53,406 Sikhs at the 2023 census, and Auckland, the south of the city above all, is where the largest share of them live.

The Takanini gurdwara is the largest in the country; Papatoetoe and Ōtāhuhu are the older heart of Punjabi Auckland, and Flat Bush and Botany the newer one.

The South Asian community in Auckland is strongest in Papatoetoe, Ōtāhuhu, Manurewa, Takanini, Flat Bush, Botany and Māngere, and the Jat Sikh community gathers around the gurdwaras in Takanini, Ōtāhuhu and Papatoetoe. Can my parents be involved?

Yes. Family can pay for a son’s membership, can see a Family View page you choose the contents of, and can speak to your matchmaker with your consent. What they can’t do is put a profile live for someone who hasn’t agreed to it: the person on the profile checks their own ID first.

Can I filter by kesh and by community?

Kesh and turban, and how practising someone is, are questions on every Sikh profile, so you see the answers before you write. Community is a search filter and can be a must-have, with “caste no bar” always available, and nobody is told which you chose.

A note from the founder

I spent six months on a paid plan on the biggest matrimonial site in the world, searching honestly for someone to marry from here. I found roughly ten men for every woman, a paid plan that produced nothing, and a fake profile I could make in minutes.
