A person read every profile here before it went live. Photos stay private until one of you accepts the other’s interest, and then you see each other’s. Your phone and email are never shown to anyone. Photos appear when she approves your request. Every interest you send carries a note you wrote, so make it count. Her contact details are never shown; she shares them if she wants to.

Nepali Sydney

The community in Sydney

Sydney has the largest Nepali community in Australia, strongest around Rockdale, Kogarah and the inner south.

The South Asian community in Sydney is strongest in Blacktown, Glenwood, Schofields, Quakers Hill, Riverstone, Parramatta and Harris Park. On Rishta you can search Sydney alone, or widen it to the whole of Australia, or to Australia and New Zealand together.

The Nepali community here is young, recently arrived and mostly still on the visa treadmill, and visa status is the question nobody wants to ask first. Rishta puts it in the profile as a field, alongside whether someone is open to relocating, so it is answered before the first conversation rather than three weeks in. Caste and ethnicity are optional, “no bar” is available, and women decide who can find them.

How Rishta works for Nepalis in Sydney

What a profile here covers for Nepalis: Nepali mother tongue · Community or ethnicity, or no bar · Visa status, stated up front · Open to relocating · Both Australia and New Zealand.

You decide who can find you
Visible to every approved member, only to people who match your preferences, or only to Rishta matchmakers. The default is preferences-only, and there are no public profile pages for anyone. Search engines never see a member.
ID-checked, or invisible
Everyone checks their ID before going live, and a person looks over every new profile the same day. Until then you cannot search and nobody can find you. Nobody appears just because they filled in a form.
A real ID, a real face
Photograph your passport or licence, then your face. Didit checks the document is genuine and that the live face matches it, and, if your profile has photos by then, that your main photo is the same person. It takes about two minutes and costs you nothing. We are told the result and the name, age and gender on the ID, never the photos of your document.
No firehose
Every interest has to carry a note someone wrote by hand, at least forty characters of it, so nobody can bulk-send. There is no daily quota to spend and no button that fires a hundred taps at once.
A matchmaker, never from your city
If you want a matchmaker, yours is never from your own city, so she will not run into you at a wedding. It is a paid service for women and men alike: an Icebreaker call is $39, and on Vichola ($1,199 for 3 months) she searches and approaches on your behalf. Searching and talking yourself is free for women.

Questions Nepalis in Sydney ask us

Can I join in Sydney?
Yes, today. Women join free. Men join with Search, $39 a month or $99 for 3 months. Everyone checks their ID before going live.
How is this different from Shaadi.com for Nepalis in Sydney?
Three ways. Everyone checks their ID before going live, and a person looks over every new profile. Women decide who can find them, and their photos are hidden until they approve someone. And no phone number or email is ever displayed on a profile, at any membership level. There is a longer comparison at /rishta-vs-shaadi.
Do women pay?
Not to search, be found, add photos, send interests, message or call. That is free for women permanently, and men pay for the same things. A matchmaker working on your behalf is a separate paid service for everyone, because that is a person’s time.
Can my parents be involved?
Yes. Family can pay for a son’s membership, can see a Family View page you choose the contents of, and can speak to your matchmaker with your consent. What they can’t do is put a profile live for someone who hasn’t agreed to it: the person on the profile checks their own ID first.
Can I filter by community and mother tongue?
Yes. Mother tongue, religion, community (with “caste no bar” always available), diet, family origin and residency status are all filters, and any of them can be a must-have.

A note from the founder

I spent six months on a paid plan on the biggest matrimonial site in the world, searching honestly for someone to marry from here. I found roughly ten men for every woman, a paid plan that produced nothing, and a fake profile I could make in minutes.

Rishta is what I wished had existed: women free with nothing held back, photos hidden until she says yes, every profile ID-checked before it goes live, every interest written by hand, no phone numbers on the page, and a matchmaker who is never from your own town. I built it because I am looking too.
